Surveys can be added to courses as curriculum items, giving you a simple way to gather learner feedback.

Surveys can be shared across multiple courses, allowing you to reuse existing surveys and avoid duplication. When the Surveys app is installed in a course, you’ll be able to view results specific to that course, keeping feedback organized and easy to analyze.

By default, students must complete surveys like any other activity to finish the course. To make participation voluntary, enable the Allow Skip toggle within the survey activity.

Only admin users with Content Editor access can create, update, or delete surveys. 

Adding a survey to a course

Follow the steps below to configure the Surveys app and add a survey to your course: 

  1. From course Settings > Apps, install the Surveys app. When prompted, click Add Shortcut to insert a Surveys link in the course menu.

  2. Open the newly added Surveys link in the course menu.

  3. To create a new survey, click Create Survey. Enter a name for the survey and click Next to begin creating questions. 

    To use an existing survey, clear the Course filter above the search bar. Then, select the survey you want and choose Assign Courses from the drop-down menu at the top. In the Assign Courses modal, the current course will already be selected. The Search Course field can be used to assign the survey to additional courses if needed. Click Save when finished.

  4. Once the survey is assigned to the course, you can add a Survey activity to the curriculum. To do this, click Curriculum from the course menu. Then, click the + icon to the right of the curriculum or below it and select Survey from the list of available activities.

  5. Click into the new survey activity to edit it. Your assigned surveys will appear in a list for selection. Select the survey you want to add using the radio button. When finished, save and publish the activity. 

Surveys can also be managed centrally by navigating to Content > Surveys in the main menu, where you can create, edit, or archive them.

To view survey results within a course, click Surveys from the course menu and select the survey you want to review. The results will appear in the drawer on the right side of the screen, where you can toggle between aggregate data and individual responses.
