Initial Setup

Some initial setup is required before adding dynamic data to your course certificates. 

Follow the steps below to add the Organizations app to your course: 

  1. Navigate to the course for which you want to create a certificate.
  2. Select Settings>Apps from the course menu.
  3. Activate the Organizations app.
  4. Ensure that the certificate app is NOT enabled. If it is enabled, the course certificate will override the organization certificate. 

Creating an organization

If you have not configured an organization, you must create one first. 

Follow the steps below to create a new organization: 

  1. After installing the Organizations app, you can add a shortcut to the course navigation menu.

  2. Next, click Manage Organization.

  3. Add a new organization or select an existing organization.

  4. Next, click to add selected organizations.

  5. Once added, you will click on the organization to select it and configure your certificate.

Editing & configuring the certificate

Follow the steps below to configure the organization certificate: 

  1. Once you've selected an organization, click Settings in the right corner of the screen and select Edit Organization.

  2. Click the Add New Field button.

  3. Enter a name for the field label along with any pertinent information in the instructions.

  4. Next, choose your format from the available options: text, text area, dropdown, or checkbox.

  5. If this should be a required field, select the Required Field toggle.

  6. Select student-sourced data or a course-specific field. Please note that in situations where a course has multiple instructors, the student will need to choose their instructor from a dropdown list and include that specific instructor in their certification at the end or completion phase of the course.

  7. Once you have configured your label, instructions, format, character limit, width, and data source, click save.

  8. Once saved, the newly created dynamic field must be added to the certificate. To do this, click Make Changes in the right panel of your screen. This is where you will include the newly added dynamic field you created at the organization level.

  9. From the add elements + icon, you will select either course values or student values to add to the newly created field.

  10. When finished, click Save.

  11. To test the certification, complete a course as a student and follow the reporting workflow in the learner area and as an approving instructor on the administrative reporting dashboard.
