Activities, excluding quizzes and exams, can be shared across courses, allowing for centralized content management and eliminating the need for duplicate content. When sharing an activity, any future changes or updates should be made to the source activity to avoid branching. So, if you select a book activity using Activity Share, any future edits to that content should be made to the original activity (source) to ensure that changes are reflected everywhere it is in use. 

Please note that Activity Share only works with activities of the same type. For example, if you create a new book activity, you will only see the option to share from other book activities. 

IMPORTANT: Quizzes and exams cannot be shared using Activity Share. However, these activities can be imported from another course, along with any assigned questions, question pools, and activity options, such as passing scores, maximum allowed time, etc.

 

TIP: If you are creating multiple courses that share quizzes or exams, building a course template can save you time and effort. A template is essentially a base course where all activities, including configured quizzes and exams, are added to the curriculum. You can then use this template to import the entire curriculum into a new course.

 

Follow the steps below to use Activity Share: 

  1. Navigate to the course you wish to build and select Curriculum from the course navigation.
  2. Use the + below the list of Curriculum items to add a new activity to the end of the course. Use the + to the right of the list of Curriculum items to add a new activity directly below the selected item or within the selected section. Then, select the desired activity type from the menu. 
  3. Double-click the new activity to edit it. 
  4. Select Activity Share from the drawer on the right side of the screen. 
  5. Click into the Search field and begin typing the name of the activity you wish to source. 
  6. Select the activity from the list of results. 
  7. Click Save. 
  8. Add a title for the new activity. You can also add an optional introduction (available for most activity types) and estimated completion time. 
  9. When finished, click Save and publish your activity.
